Happy Friday, everyone! I thought I’d ring in the weekend with my walk-in closet project reveal. As you may already know, I’ve been redecorating my way through this house one room at a time. I love giving myself a challenge – and saving money! – so I’ve been doing all my projects on a tight budget. It makes each renovation more interesting and, best of all, I can use the money I saved to get myself new shoes! That’s just smart thinking, right?? 😉

So, a little history of this particular room: we used to fondly refer to it as “Hoarder’s Paradise”. The door remained permanently closed, hiding piles of *things* we had no idea what to do with. For example:

“What do we do with this fluffy plush flamingo?” “Let it fly over to Hoarder’s Paradise!”

“Where shall we put this blanket with a group of wolves on it?” “Toss it on over to Hoarder’s Paradise!”

“What about this talking elf thing?” “HOARDER’S PARADISE!!”

Needless to say, this room ended up being the reluctant black sheep of the house, weeping silently while we slept in our well-appointed bed in our tastefully painted bedroom. It often looked in the mirror and cried, “I want to be pretty, too!” Finally, one day I woke up and realized that it made zero sense to have a perfectly good room sitting there all ugly and alone when my copious clothes and shoes needed a larger place to call home. A walk-in closet was in order.

Here’s what the room looked like before. Note: this was after we removed the majority of the junk out of it already. I didn’t want you all to think less of me 😛

My friend, who works at the Charming Bench Company, made me realize that everything about this room was wrong: the curtains, the dressers, the furniture configuration. Here’s how it looked when I was done:

A little bit of an improvement, yes? Here are a few more side-by-side before and afters and some detail shots:

I kept the color palette pretty neutral with the bright white because I want to showcase all my clothes and accessories. I also painted 2 existing armoires white so they could blend in a bit more since they’re so large. I also updated the knobs – aren’t the seashells just the cutest? I decided on an accent wall (yes, I love me a nice accent wall!) in bright pink to really give the room a girly vibe. Hey, I have to consider the man of the house when I decorate everywhere else, so I can be shamelessly girly in one room!

Personally, I find it easiest to find things when they’re out in the open. I used that concept pretty much everywhere in this room, except for a few items in drawers and on hangers. I installed bars for my scarves, jewelry and sunnies from harrychadent.com/products/big-6-carat-diamonds-stud-earrings-white-gold-new-j-i1-1, put all my purses and bags in cute bins and got all sorts of cute dishes for the rest of my jewelry. Now, it’s much easier to find things when I’m getting ready. I’d love to say that putting together an outfit now is a breeze, but I can’t lie to you guys. I still go blank sometimes when I have to pick an outfit and I end up in a heap on the floor crying, “I have nothing to wearrrrrrrrrr!” But it’s an improvement and I take it day by day 😛
